After reading the book, I have to admit I was a tiny bit disappointed with this Amazon mini-series.

My first and main problem were the CGI effects - this is 2019! We have movies with such real special effects there’s no excuse to fail on this department, and yet, there were some things that looked put together by a three-year-old (Heaven and Hell’s representation was SUPER weird!).

Secondly, even though the cast is AMAZING (*standing ovation to the cast director*), David Tennant was the life of this show. I’m not saying this because I admire his work him, but because he was truly its soul. Crowley is a brilliant character in the book, but seeing him gain life in Tennant’s skin felt like the perfect fit.

Every other part was like Lucy Mangan writes in her Guardian review, “paper-thin”: they are forgetful, extremely bland and some even go unnoticed like Benedict Cumberbatch as Satan.

Mangan continues saying that “this adaptation goes to hell when they’re [Tennant and Sheen] are not around”. She’s almost 100% right. Personally, I think that even though Sheen gives us a perfect rendering of Aziraphale’s homosexuality, love and loyalty for Crowley, his character was too good to be true, unlike in the book.

In it, Aziraphale accepts the fact that both him and Crowley are imperfect beings, both Good and Evil even though they’re supposed to be representing sides.

Everything that I didn’t appreciate in the book, got heightened in the show: the Them annoyed me like nothing else ever could; and Anathema and Newt’s relationship was incredibly cringy, to the point it made me uncomfortable.

The absolute highlight for me was episode 3, where we get to see Aziraphale and Crowley’s friendship come to life throughout the centuries. Maybe it was the Historian in me that loved to see those events in a satirical light, but this was definitely my favourite moment.

Another thing that made me super happy was this show’s soundtrack: from Queen to David Arnold’s incredible compositions, from Muse to Paul McCartney, from Rolling Stones to The Beatles, you’ll spend these 6 hours singing passionately, feeling like these songs fit perfectly in those moments.
